You can imagine when Simone grows older, she'll say something along the lines of, "Daaaaaaaaad. In the track, which features a Sheeran-sung hook and an understated guitar and drum-based riff, Macklemore basically raps about his own struggles becoming an adult and his hopes for his child's future. But, if you think Mackelmore is a cornball, second-rate Sage Francis rip-off, you'll basically find this song the aural equivalent of a "dance while no one is watching" macro image on your annoying friend's Facebook wall. If "Same Love" made you cry and "Thrift Shop" was your song of the summer, you'll probably love this. Your opinion of Macklemore, who releases sentimental capital-C conscious but not entirely self-aware rap, will decide whether or not you like the song. "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)" is basically a litany of life advice wrapped up in a sentimental pop-rap arrangement courtesy of, as always, his right-hand man, producer Ryan Lewis. And because it serves as a sort of guidebook to her growing up, it sure is sappy. The titular Sloane is Macklemore's two-month old daughter, whose birth was publicly announced in the song. But now, the rap-game Joel Osteen is back with his first song in three years called "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)," and he enlisted tiny-guitar aficionado Ed Sheeran.
